Supporters of the England national team are divided into two camps regarding the new team captain, as revealed in a survey conducted by the BBC.

Chelsea defender John Terry received 51% of the votes, Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard got 46%, Manchester United defender Gary Neville - 2%, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who finished fourth - 1%, and the current captain and Real Madrid star David Beckham received only one vote.

A total of 371 official members of the England national team supporters' club "Englandfans" participated in the survey.

The new national team manager Steve McLaren will announce the new team captain on Friday afternoon.
