On Thursday, the English Football Association officially announced that the new captain of the England national team is London defender John Terry.

The decision was made on Thursday by the new England national team manager Steve McLaren. He also decided that the "deputy" captain would be "Liverpool" star Steven Gerrard.

J. Terry will make his debut with the England national team captain band in a friendly match against European champion Greece on August 16.

"I am convinced that he will become one of the best England captains of all time," said the national team coach. "John has all the qualities needed for a national team captain: he is a true leader, has authority, is brave, talented, understands game tactics, and always wants to win."

"It is a great honor for me to be the captain of my country's national team," said J. Terry. "I am very grateful for the opportunity."

25-year-old J. Terry made his debut for the England national team on June 3, 2003, in a match against Serbia and Montenegro, and has since played 29 matches.

In the role of captain of the national team, the defender replaced David Beckham, who held this position for six years and resigned from the England national team when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
