The vice-champion of Lithuania FBK "Kaunas" started the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup unsuccessfully - the Kaunas team lost to the "Randers" club with a score of 3-1 after missing two goals at the end of the match.
Randers Essex Park, 4242 spectators Referee - Mark Steven Whitby (Wales) 3 - 1 59' [1 - 0] Djiby Fall 79' [1 - 1] Gvidas Juška 82' [2 - 1] Issah Ahmed 90' [3 - 1] Kenneth Moller Pedersen (pen.)
The first half of the match ended without goals, and in the beginning of the second half, the hosts took the lead after D. Fall's goal. After twenty minutes, the Lithuanians managed to equalize the score when Gvidas Juška scored, but the situation became complicated in the last ten minutes.
Initially, the Danes took the lead again, and at the very end of the match, the referee awarded a penalty kick to the "Kaunas" goal and K.M. Pedersen secured an important victory.
The second leg will take place in Kaunas in two weeks. Victory by 2-0 or any victory by a three-goal difference would satisfy the Lithuanian club. If the match ends 3-1, extra time would be played.
"I am dissatisfied with the result. We were not deserving of such a loss. When G. Juška equalized the score, I certainly did not think the opponents would win. However, after our players' mistakes in defense, the opponents managed to secure the win," said "Kaunas" head coach Eugenijus Riabovas to alyga.lt website.
According to him, the penalty kick to the Kaunas goal should not have been awarded. The referee awarded it because the "Randers" player was pulled by the shirt. "I think we will avenge ourselves with the necessary result on our own pitch," E. Riabovas said.
