The club announced that they have signed a four-year contract with goalkeeper Tomas Kuscak, who will be loaned out in the first season. As part of the deal, Paul McShane and Luke Steele moved to W.B.A team.
"In the first season, he will be loaned out, and starting from July 2007, he will fully belong to us. We hope Tomas will remain a Man Utd player for a long time," explained the club's general director David Gill.
Given that the next goalkeeper Ben Foster was loaned out to Watford for another year, 24-year-old T. Kuscak will take on the role of a reserve team goalkeeper after Edwin Van der Sar. E. Van der Sar plans to retire after the 2008 European Championship, then T. Kuscak could become the club's main goalkeeper.
"He is very talented and knows the challenges that the Premier League presents," said Man Utd's head coach Sir Alex Ferguson about the player. - "Working with such a great goalkeeper like Edwin Van der Sar will benefit him."
"I met with the player several times. He expressed a strong desire to join the United team, as well as the potential to play in the Premier League and the Champions League. In the end, we understood that it was an extraordinary situation and that we would hinder Tomas's career if we insist on keeping him," said W.B.A website coach Bryan Robson.
Prior to this, T. Kuscak spent 3 years at Hertha team in Berlin, Germany, and then two years at W.B.A. Sir Alex Ferguson tried to acquire the goalkeeper all summer by offering £2.5 million, but such an offer did not satisfy W.B.A.
However, now that T. Kuscak and Tim Howard are loaned to Everton, Man Utd hopes to have enough competition in the goalkeeper position for the next five years.
