Aleksandras Pobegalovas was dismissed from the position of head coach of the team after a sensational defeat to the second division team Grozny "Terek" in the Russian Cup semifinals.
This decision was hastily made after a 2-1 loss on Wednesday. The vice president of "Shinnik", R. Danilenko, who dismissed the coach, told Russian "Premier" league websites: "A. Pobegalovas did a lot of good for FC Shinnik club, advancing in his career from youth to the first team coach, but we decided to terminate his contract."
Following the unsuccessful cup matches, poor results in the league followed, pushing the "Shinnik" team to the 12th place with 10 points in just as many games. The 47-year-old Pobegalovas, who became the team's coach in 1999, said: "The only person responsible is the coach if his team does not play as he wants."
