Last season, Bayern, who won the title for the second year in a row, had to cope without their long-time team leader, former captain of the German national team Michael Ballack, who moved to Chelsea.

The Bavarian coach Felix Magath left his new acquisition Lukas Podolski on the bench, but even without the German national team striker, the hosts were dangerous from the first minute - R.Makaay turned in the right corner of the penalty area and scored a goal.

Later, the Dutch striker received a sharp pass from B.Schweinsteiger and forced his goal to save the shot from close range by Dortmund's goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller. The visitors had their first chance in the 15th minute when the new signing Alexander Frei hit the crossbar.

However, after a gross mistake by Hasan Salihamidzic in the 19th minute, the visitors lost German national team defender Sebastian Kehl, who suffered a knee injury, and in the 24th minute a great shot from the penalty area edge put the hosts ahead by R. Makaay.

Playing half an hour in his 500th Bundesliga match, Bayern's goalkeeper Oliver Kahn and Borussia constantly threatened with counter attacks, but after the break in the 55th minute the Bavarians doubled their advantage and sealed the victory - one of the stars of the World Cup Phillip Lahm made a signature breakthrough on the left side and passed the ball to B. Schweinsteiger, who defeated R. Weidenfeller with a low shot.

Bayern maintained their lead until the end of the match and convincingly started the league season with a win. The six matches of the 1st round of the Bundesliga will be played on Saturday, with the last two matches of the first league weekend taking place on Sunday.
