The matches of the fifth round were played on Saturday in the Scottish "Premier" league. The leader of the championship in terms of goals scored became the Edinburgh "Hearts" club, despite drawing with "Falkirk" and surpassing the debutant "St. Mirren", who had to admit the superiority of "Celtic".

In the squad of "Hearts", who experienced failure in the Champions League matches on Wednesday, the match against "Falkirk" at home was started by Saulius Mikoliūnas again, who had the best chances to score for the hosts, but the Lithuanian either lacked accuracy or was disturbed by defenders.

Edgar Jankauskas also failed to create a goal after appearing on the field in the 68th minute, so the match ended in a draw. Sick Deividas Česnauskis and injured Nerijus Barasa played again, while the team's newcomer Marius Žaliūkas did not have time to join the team.

The defending champions "Celtic" triumphed with victory by forcing the newcomer "St Mirren" to surrender on their field. The goals for the winners were scored by Stephen McManus and Stilian Petrov. Meanwhile, "Aberdeen" achieved their first victory of the season after overcoming "Motherwell" with two goals by Darren Mackie away.

The remaining two Saturday matches between "Kilmarnock" and "Dundee Utd" as well as "Inverness" and "Hibernian" ended in goalless draws. In the last match of the round on Sunday, the winless "Dunfermline" will face Glasgow "Rangers".
