One of the leaders of the club, Wayne Rooney, may be forced to miss the first Premier League season match of England next Sunday due to injury.
The team's coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, after winning 3-0 friendly matches, confirmed that he doubts whether the striker will recover in time.
"W. Rooney injured his groin and it currently concerns us," said the strategist. "The injury is not serious, but it is unknown whether he will be able to play already next Sunday."
The twenty-year-old Englishman has not played since the friendly matches against "Porto" eight days ago, in which he not only scored a goal but was also forced off the field due to an elbow blow. Because of this episode, the Englishman received criticism from the coaches.
Nevertheless, W. Rooney's injury would be a big loss for the "Red Devils." Long-time club attacking leader Ruud van Nistelrooy transferred to Real Madrid this summer, and another player capable of playing in the attack, Alan Smith, will not play for several weeks due to a leg fracture suffered in February.
In the mentioned friendly matches against "Sevilla," Frenchman Louis Saha played in the attack and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo played in the attacking winger position.
