On Monday, UEFA announced a list of 12 players who will compete for the UEFA club football awards. The list consists of players who successfully competed in the Champions League last season.
There are four main award categories - UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year, Defender of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, and Forward of the Year. The Champions League finalists "Barcelona" and "Arsenal" have the most representatives.
This year, the election procedure is slightly changing - now the best will be chosen by 16 coaches from teams that reached the knockout stages of the Champions League last year, as well as members of UEFA's special study group.
The 2006 UEFA Club Footballer elections were previously known as the Most Valuable Player. The winners will be announced on August 25 in Monaco during the UEFA Cup draw.
