Today one of the largest shareholders of Madrid Jesús Gil (Jesús Gil) passed away. Last Sunday, he was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Talavera de la Reina hospital in Spain due to cerebral thrombosis, and later was transferred to a clinic in Madrid.

71-year-old Gil was a key figure in the capital's club for a long time and one of the symbols. Becoming president in 1987, Gil participated in all the club's ups and downs for 16 seasons: in 1996, "Atletico" won the Spanish championship and cup, but in 2000 it dropped to a lower league. After that, the club fell into debt, and in May 2003, Gil was accused of financial irregularities and resigned from the presidency.

This season, "Atletico" is already playing in the top division and is in sixth place, thus aiming to secure a spot in the UEFA Cup next year.
