The German champion Bayern Munich has lost defender Valerien Ismaël for at least six months as the player broke his leg during training. The 30-year-old Frenchman fractured his left fibula just two minutes before the end of the training session on Tuesday. The club immediately sent him for surgery. A similar operation had already been performed earlier this summer. Last season, Ismaël, who moved from Werder Bremen to Bayern, played 30 games for the team and helped them defend the Bundesliga title. The Frenchman will miss all of the team's matches in the group stage of the Champions League, but he could return for the knockout rounds if Bayern qualifies.
