On Friday evening, the second round of the German Bundesliga began. Nuremberg hosted the local team and the visitors.
Both teams started their German championship campaign successfully - Nuremberg crushed Stuttgart 3-0 away, while Monchengladbach beat league newcomers Cottbus 2-0 at home. Nuremberg and Gladbach fought for victory in their match with a minimal result of 1-0 in favor of the hosts. The only goal of the match was scored by forward Markus Schroth in the 5th minute of the game. This match once again confirmed that it is very difficult for Gladbach to play away games - last season the team was one of the worst performing teams away from home.
After the second victory this season, Nuremberg probably temporarily rose to the top spot, as four other teams with three points each will play their matches on Saturday and will have the opportunity to catch up with Nuremberg. It is worth mentioning that in the national championship matches, this was already the eighth consecutive home victory for Nuremberg.
