Forward of AC Milan and Nigerian national team Obafemi Martins is set to move to England soon and represent the club - the talks about the ongoing negotiations were confirmed by the player himself.
"I am close to moving to Newcastle despite all the initial difficulties that arose. 80 percent of the deal with Newcastle is sorted out. Playing in the Premier League has been my long-term ambition and I am very excited that all this could become reality in the next few days," the 21-year-old player told a BBC correspondent on Monday.
O. Martins expressed his desire to leave Inter club after the acquisition of two new forwards - Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Argentine Hernan Crespo. With their arrival, the chances of the Nigerian playing in the main lineup significantly decreased, and the player received numerous offers from foreign clubs.
Newcastle showed the most interest and it is believed that Inter agreed to sell the forward for 16 million euros, so over the weekend the player's agent met with representatives of the English club to negotiate.
So far, Newcastle has refused to comment on O. Martins' statements and media speculations, while Inter has stated that there are no news regarding the player's transfer, but the English club has inquired about him.
