t one time, Istanbul clubs were enriched by famous players from Brazilian teams - the capital of Turkey acquired Uruguayan national team defender Diego Lugano for 7.5 million euros, while a former midfielder Ricardinho, who signed a two-year contract, joined another team in the city.

About 25-year-old D. Lugano signed a three-year contract with the possibility of extending it for another season, announced by "Fenerbahce" vice president Mahmut Uslu, who is pleased to have finally attracted the player: "We first saw him three years ago, but only now we managed to acquire him. He will fill a gap in our defense line and I hope he will adapt quickly."

"I will do everything possible to satisfy the fans. I am very happy to come to Turkey," said D. Lugano, who represented the Uruguay national team 10 times.

The defender arrived at the Brazilian club "Sao Paulo" in 2003 and helped the team win the "Libertadores" cup and the FIFA World Club Championship. The Uruguayan should wear the jersey number 35 at "Fenerbahce", but will not be able to help his new team, which on Wednesday will try to avenge the defeat to Kiev's "Dynamo" club 3-1 in the third qualifying round of the Champions League at home.

Meanwhile, 30-year-old Brazilian national team player Ricardinho admitted that before agreeing to move to Istanbul, he talked to compatriots playing in this city: "I talked to Kleberson, Bobo, and Marcio Nobre about Besiktas, and I also searched for information about the club on the internet for the past ten days. Our primary goal is to focus on the Turkish league, and later we look forward to playing in the UEFA Cup. We hope to achieve a lot."

The Brazilian, who helped his national team win the World Cup in 2002 and played twice in this year's tournament, previously played for "Parana", the same "Sao Paulo" and "Santos" in his homeland. In the old continent, he represented "Bordeaux" in the 1997/98 season and was loaned to "Middlesbrough" in 2003.
