French national team center-back Jean Alain Boumsong has agreed to leave and move to Turin, Italy, shaken by scandal and relegated to the second-tier league in terms of performance.

The 26-year-old defender, who also competed with the French national team in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy, has signed a four-year contract with the Turin club.

J.A. Boumsong, who was also actively sought after by Marseille and Lens, arrived at Newcastle from Rangers in January 2005 and then signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the English club.

Negotiating the player's transfer, Juventus also agreed to play friendly matches with Newcastle at St James' Park stadium next summer.

The Frenchman, beloved by Newcastle fans, lost his place in the starting lineup this year: the coach usually chose a pair of center-backs from Craig Moore, Steven Taylor, and Titus Bramble.
