According to the Spanish media, the Spanish national team and Sevilla club defender Joaquin will move to the team in the near future for 25 million euros, creating a long-term six-year contract.
Many European clubs were interested in the player: England's champions Chelsea and vice-champions Man Utd, Italy's Inter Milan, and France's Lyon. But it seems that "Valencia" won the battle for the player's signature, and the player will most likely spend the next season playing in the "La Liga".
The 25-year-old defender did not hide his desire to play at "Mestalla", so most of the problems arose in negotiations between the clubs.
However, "Betis" satisfied Valencia's offer of 25 million euros. Contrary to expectations, the deal will not include Uruguayan national team right-back Mario Regueiro.
"Valencia" has been searching for a player who could play in the right-back position and tried to acquire Portuguese Simao Sabrosa, but the transfer did not happen as the player could not agree on personal terms.
Aurelio Sanchez, Joaquin's father, revealed that his son wants to move to Valencia and finalize the details of the personal contract there. The right-back of the Spanish national team is expected to earn about 1.5 million euros per year.
On Friday, the player should undergo a medical examination and officially sign a contract with the Valencia club.
It is believed that the main advantage for Valencia in negotiating the player's acquisition is the fact that the club returned to the prestigious UEFA Champions League group stage after a few years' break.
If nothing unexpected happens, Joaquin will become the second most expensive player in the Spanish championship this summer. A few days ago, Real Madrid added Lyon star Mahamadou Diarra for 26 million euros.
