On Thursday, the club that qualified for the UEFA Champions League was joined by Joris Mathijsen, a defender from the Netherlands national team, who moved from the Alkmaar team.
J.Mathijsen, who transferred to Alkmaar in 2004 after six years spent at "Willem II", has played 12 matches for the Netherlands national team, three of which were in this year's World Cup in Germany.
As reported by the German and Dutch media, "AZ" will receive around 10 million euros for the 26-year-old defender.
J.Mathijsen is expected to replace another defender from the Netherlands national team, Khalid Boulahrouz, at Hamburger club, who moved to London's "Chelsea" on Monday.
