Club defender Gary Neville may miss two England qualifiers for the 2008 European Championship against Andorra and Macedonia due to a calf muscle injury.
The "Red Devils" captain is not registered for Saturday's English Premier League match against Watford and, following the advice of Sir Alex Ferguson, he needs to rest.
"He has a serious injury, so we are trying to give him a chance to recover worst-case scenario before the match with Tottenham, and best-case scenario - with Arsenal," says the team's head coach A. Ferguson.
Manchester United will host visitors from North London - Tottenham at Old Trafford on September 9, and after eight days, will play their first game at the new Emirates Stadium of Arsenal.
31-year-old G. Neville, playing in the right-back position, had muscle problems at the World Cup, where he had to miss two group stage matches and one round of 16 game.
In the opening match of Man Utd against Fulham, which they "destroyed" with a 5-1 result, the tough captain only played one half, while he missed the away game to Charlton in the second round.
Currently, the player is training with Argentina's defender Gabriel Heinze, who is recovering from a muscle injury, after previously breaking his leg, which forced him to miss the entire last season.
