Former England club forward Steve Marlet is leaving Germany and returning to his homeland, moving to a slightly more modest French team.
The experienced 32-year-old striker has signed a one-year contract with his new club, which returned to the top French "Ligue 1" championship this summer.
Marlet, who moved to Fulham for £11.5 million in January 2002, revealed that coach Christian Gourcuff had been trying to lure him to his team all summer.
"Lorient is a team that plays excellent football and loves risk," noted Marlet. "I am physically well-prepared. For two weeks I trained with the PSG reserve team and I would like to thank coach Vincent Guerin for accepting me."
"Moving to Lorient does not mean a lack of ambition, quite the opposite. The team has a goal - to stay in Ligue 1 and continue to improve and rise," said the player.
