After a crushing victory of 6-0 against the Faroe Islands national team at home in the qualifiers for the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland, in Group B, where Lithuania also plays, the head coach of the Scottish team, Walter Smith, was satisfied.
"We did a good job," the coach told BBC radio. "The attackers scored goals and this will give them confidence. 50 thousand fans created a fantastic atmosphere in the first match."
In Saturday's match, Kris Boyd scored two goals, while Darren Fletcher, Kenny Miller, James McFadden, and Gary O'Connor each scored once.
"A victory was expected from us, so it's nice to win," the coach said. "It's a good start before tougher matches."
Scotland will face Lithuania's national team at Kaunas S. Dariaus and S. Girėno Stadium on Wednesday, after the Lithuanian team played a sensational 1-1 draw with the World Champions Italy as visitors on Saturday.
"Kaunas is a place where Scotland hasn't had much luck lately," the Scot said about Wednesday's match. "But we believe in ourselves. I am sure we can go there and get the result we need."
W. Smith admitted that Lee McCulloch and Graeme Murty are unlikely to travel to Kaunas, not having recovered from injuries in time.
However, midfielder Darren Fletcher, who scored the first goal against the Faroe Islands, should travel to Lithuania, despite being substituted during Saturday's match.
"I have had back and Achilles problems for a long time," Fletcher said. "The substitution was made just to protect me."
"Everyone expected an impressive victory, so I am pleased that we were able to achieve it," the Scot said. "It will be different against Lithuania. They pass the ball well, so we will have to withstand significant pressure."
"But we believe in our abilities, as we have played well away from home recently," the midfielder added, showing optimism.
