On Monday, Spanish national team striker Fernando Torres announced that he has extended his contract with the Madrid club until 2009.
"According to the previous contract, there were still two years left. After speculation about my future this summer, I'm still here (ed. note - with the Atletico Madrid team) and the club offered to extend the contract for another year," Torres said at a press conference.
"I decided to do so because I feel my worth in the team. Everything is agreed upon and when I return (ed. note - the player invited to the national team), we will officially confirm it," explained the Spaniard.
