During a press conference after the match with Lithuania, Scotland's head coach Walter Smith calmly praised the result, the team's performance, and the excellent start in the 2008 European Championship qualifying tournament.
"The best thing in the match was the result. I was satisfied with how we played, I have no complaints to the players. We are happy that we won the match, especially important was to win away," said W. Smith.
"The match was very intense, we had several opportunities to score in the first half, but their shot was blocked on the goal line. Our goal was to score in the first part of the match, and we scored immediately after the break, and they managed to press us after that. It would have been disappointing to concede a second goal at the end," said the Scottish coach.
"We had to change the team's formation due to the injuries of James (McFadden) and Nigel (Quashie). Paul Hartley had to change position three times, but it didn't have a big impact on the team. 6 points in 2 matches is a very good result. I am satisfied with the starting lineup of the team, but there is still a lot of time until the match against France," continued the coach.
Asked about the considerable discussion before the match stirred up by the condition of the pitch in S.Dariaus and S.Girėno stadium, W. Smith had no further complaints: "The pitch was good during the match, it was poor during training sessions, but we expressed criticism and the situation changed for the better."
