Continuing the renewed section - the ranking of the Lithuanian national team players - the football portal EuroFootball.com tries to evaluate the performance of the Lithuanian national team in the match against Scotland on a scale of 1 to 10.
Lithuanian National Team - 6.5
As expected, the match against Scotland was a completely different story compared to the meeting with Italy, as the latter cost a lot of energy and that was exactly what was lacking for the important match in Kaunas. Nevertheless, despite the result, the team did not play poorly and, as noted by coach A.Liubinskas, performed better than three years ago when they won thanks to a questionable penalty kick.
Starting lineup:
Žydrūnas Karčemarskas - 7 (From the start of the match, he defended the goal excellently and saved his team several times. However, although the goalkeeper cannot be blamed for the conceded goals, in those situations he lacked determination and secure play.)
Marius Stankevičius - 6.5 (After a poor match in Italy, he looked more like himself, did a lot of work in defense and made fewer mistakes, but failed to deal with K.Miller, conceding the second goal)
Tomas Žvirgždauskas - 5.5 (Had a hard time covering the Scottish attackers and did not show secure play in defense.)
Andrius Skerla - 5 (Like T.Žvirgždauskas, he did not look very reliable and often made mistakes that were uncharacteristic for an experienced player)
Rolandas Džiaukštas - 6 (Defending in a less attacked area by the Scots, he didn't have much to do, and lacked consistency in attacking actions.)
Mindaugas Kalonas - 7 (Making his debut in an important match, the player showed that he was fully prepared and played confidently, often breaking through the opponents' defense with his runs)
Aidas Preikšaitis - 6.5 (The veteran seemed tired and did not play as successfully as against the Italians, but he was often important in ball retention)
Mantas Savėnas - 6.5 (Was not very active in attacking actions and did not cause many problems with long-range shots, but often posed a threat to the Scots with his set pieces)
Saulius Mikoliūnas - 6.5 (Started the match actively and demonstrated dribbling skills several times, almost creating a goal by himself once, but later seemed to lose steam and was substituted)
Tomas Danilevičius - 6 (After an inspiring performance in Naples, he did not look like a leader and often drifted too far back without being noticeable)
Robertas Poškus - 5 (As usual, he fought actively in every episode, but he was tragically unsuccessful in attacking the goal, and those missed opportunities cost Lithuania points)
Substitutes:
Tomas Tamošauskas - 6 (Added some energy running onto the field in the second half, but did not make a significant impact)
Tadas Labukas - 6 (Tried a couple of times to threaten the Scottish goal, but did not influence the result)
Darius Miceika - 6.5 (Became a very successful substitute, scoring a fantastic goal just three minutes after coming on and revitalizing the team's hope of not losing)
Head coach:
Algimantas Liubinskas - 6 (Had to deal with several important players missing and a tired team, so he couldn't do much. Correctly guessed the substitution with Miceika and choosing (albeit forcibly) Kalonas, but admitted that he could have made the changes earlier.)
Since evaluating accurately was certainly not easy, we would like to hear your opinion as well.
