On Saturday, in the French "Ligue 1" championship, eight matches of the fifth round were played. Once again, the defending champions "Lyon" solidly defeated their opponents, while "Rennes" managed to secure their first victory of the season in this round.
This time, "Lyon", currently at the top of the league table, hosted the underdog "Troyes" and won 2-0. In the 16th minute, Brazilian defender Cris put Lyon ahead, and in the 87th minute, his compatriot Juninho doubled the lead.

"Monaco" continued their unsuccessful streak, losing 2-1 away to a strong "Auxerre" team. Despite falling behind 2-0 in the 58th minute, "Monaco" managed to score one back in the 61st minute through Nimani. With only 4 points after 5 matches, "Monaco" currently sits in 15th place. Worth mentioning, this was Auxerre's first win in the championship.
After a not so great start to the season, the vice-champion team "Bordeaux" also secured a tough victory this weekend, defeating the underdog "Nice" 3-2. "Nice" took the lead in the 28th minute, but "Bordeaux" scored three goals in a row and only towards the end of the match did "Nice" manage to score another.
The debutant team in "Ligue 1", "Lorient", continued their successful performance. This time, the newcomers managed to snatch a point away from "Le Mans" after a tough battle and now sit in 7th place on the table with 8 points.
