As reported by head coach Martin Jolas, England national team and London club right back Aaron Lennon has suffered a serious knee injury and may need surgery.

The 19-year-old A. Lennon played in both England's 2008 European Championship qualifying matches against Andorra and Macedonia, but yesterday (Saturday) missed Tottenham's match against Man Utd because he injured his knee during Friday's training session.

"Perhaps he will need surgery, or perhaps we will give him a week's rest, as there is only a small tear in his meniscus, so we hope everything will be fine," said head coach M. Jolas to the club's website. - "It's disappointing, but he didn't participate in the team's preseason matches and the other players looked good, so I am confident that we can play without him and achieve results with others."

The rising star may now not be able to help his national team on October 7th, when England continues their 2008 European Championship qualifying cycle with a match against Macedonia.

Although previously A. Lennon only appeared on the field as a substitute, playing as a right back he energized England's game. The young player made a huge impression in the recent World Cup in Germany, and before that, in July, he made a stunning debut in the national team with a 6-0 victory in a friendly match against Jamaica.
