The free agent Didier Agathe has signed a short-term contract with Birmingham, a club that is looking better and better in England, and will have the opportunity to prove to his former coach Martin O'Neill what he is capable of.
The 31-year-old defender spent five years in the ranks of Glasgow Celtic, which was then coached by M. O'Neill. The player signed a contract with Aston Villa, which will expire in January of next year, but it includes the option to extend it.
"I think he is talented and misses football and hard work," the coach told the club's website. "This is a great opportunity and a huge challenge for him, and he has a chance to extend his contract for a longer period."
"He is very determined," added the strategist. "During his years at Celtic, he played wonderfully, but for various reasons, he did not make it into the long-term plans."
"Sometimes that's just the way it goes, but Didier still has a lot to show. He is very fast, so he should fit in. When his confidence rises, he can outpace any opponent.
"Now all he has to do is work hard and be in good physical shape," O'Neill said.
This summer, D. Agathe was on trial with the Blackburn team, but he failed to make a big impression there and up to this point, he has been a free agent who could sign a contract with any team at any time.
