At the end of August, former Spanish national team striker Diego Tristan, who was released from La Coruna's "Deportivo," finally found a new club - he will play for "Mallorca."
Earlier reports suggested that he was actively pursued by English teams "Bolton" and "Charlton," but the Spaniard decided to stay in his country and signed a contract with "Mallorca" until the end of the season.
D. Tristan played for this team in the 1999/2000 season and scored 18 goals in 29 matches.
"In England, I would receive a higher salary, but I believe I will perform better in Spain. My mind urged me to go to England, but my heart decided to move to Mallorca. Money had no influence on my decision. My goal now is to play," said the thirty-year-old footballer.
"Mallorca" club president Vicente Grande expressed excitement that Diego Tristan will play for his team again, and coach Gregorio Manzano stated that "D. Tristan will be beneficial to the team because he is experienced."
The Mallorca team finished their first two matches of the Spanish championship with draws and in the last round, they played a 0-0 game against "Deportivo."
