London strategist Arsene Wenger hinted that the young team star Cesc Fabregas will sign an eight-year contract with the capital club.
The nineteen-year-old Spaniard recently signed a contract that had been agreed upon when he arrived at the team, but A. Wenger stated that he awaits a new long-term contract.
"A real new contract has been offered now," the Frenchman said. "Nineteen (years - ed.) plus eight equals 27. There are few longer contracts."
"But when you are nineteen and already a key player, I don't see any problems," added the strategist. "He has shown fantastic dedication to the club."
The Spanish giants Real Madrid were interested this summer in acquiring the young star, but C. Fabregas himself stated that he is happy in London.
C. Fabregas, who participated in the World Cup with the Spanish national team this summer, moved to Arsenal from Barcelona's youth academy in July 2003.
