As announced by the Portuguese club, former "Milan" defender Rui Costa will not be able to help his team in the UEFA Champions League Group F match against Danish champions "Kobenhavn" on Wednesday due to a thigh injury.
The 34-year-old veteran will not travel with the team to the first Champions League match of the year and will stay in Lisbon to receive treatment.
"There is a slight bruising on his right thigh," said a "Benfica" representative. "As a precaution, he will not travel with us to Denmark."
After 12 years in Italy, R. Costa returned to his homeland this summer.
The former European champions "Benfica" reached the group stage after crossing the third qualifying barrier by defeating Vienna's "Austria" with an aggregate score of 4-1. Meanwhile, "Kobenhavn" caused a small sensation by eliminating the Dutch "Ajax" eleven from the tournament with an aggregate score of 3-2.
