Former England national football team captain David Beckham has announced that he will fight for a place in the team, even though the new coach Steve McClaren left him out.
Not showing the best sporting form lately, Beckam, speaking to the press, said that the coach contacted him before a friendly match with Greece and stated that currently he is not needed in the national team.
"I know people say that I should have expected this," Beckham said. "But I didn't anticipate it. It was a shock to find out that after 10 years I won't be playing for the national team anymore.
"The coach made a decision, but I am eager to prove that it was a mistake.
"I heard someone say that I begged Steve to change his mind. Of course, I was very disappointed, but I definitely didn't do that. I am a person who would never kneel down to be accepted into a team.
Despite all this, the 31-year-old player who has represented England 94 times said he does not intend to end his career in the national team for now.
"I haven't announced the end of my career in the national team because I still want to play for it," Beckham insisted. "McClaren said the doors are still open for me, but I'm not sure about that and I don't advise anyone to bet money.
"I just want to reach the milestone of 100 matches and win the European Championship gold. I set this goal a long time ago and I definitely won't give up on it now."
