After the NFKA "A Lyga" match in Šiauliai on Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw, neither "Šiauliai" coach Saulius Vertelis nor Marijampolė's "Sūduva" head coach Algimantas Gabrys were satisfied with the result.
"The match was between two equal opponents," summarized A.Gabrys. "Today our plan was not to lose. Neither the game nor the result satisfy us. In the second half, we had good opportunities to win, but lacked accuracy."
"We have lost our game," said the "Sūduva" coach. "But it is gradually improving - today we played better than in previous matches."
A similar sentiment was expressed by "Šiauliai" coach Saulius Vertelis.
"We are not satisfied with the result - before that we suffered a painful defeat to "Vėtra" (0-4)," - said S.Vertelis. "With "Sūduva" we are side by side in the tournament table - in sixth and seventh places, it would have been better to win."
"Today the men played much better than against "Vėtra," the players tried hard, although it was a very difficult situation - we couldn't play two key players (G.Juodeikis and A.Šidlauskas)," said the coach. "If you want to win - you need to score goals. We had opportunities for that, but we didn't take advantage of them, so we played 1-1."
When asked if the team will continue to fight for fourth place or even medals, S.Vertelis said the team has no intention to give up: "The players train a lot, try hard, and give a lot of effort."
After Sunday's draw, both teams remained in the same positions: "Sūduva" in sixth place with 37 points after 27 matches, and "Šiauliai" in seventh place with the same number of matches - 34 points.
