Former England national team captain Bryan Robson is leaving the position of head coach by mutual agreement. This news was announced today by the club's management.
In a statement, it was revealed that assistant coach Nigel Pearson will take over this position until the club decides how to proceed.
Club president Jeremy Peace stated that the decision was prompted by the club's results since the beginning of 2006, which led to "W.B.A." being relegated from the Premier League last season.
Peace explained on the club's website: "After much consideration and taking into account the results shown since the beginning of 2006, it was decided that changes are necessary if the club wants to achieve its goals for this and future seasons. This is a very significant time for the 'W.B.A.' team."
In a statement later provided, Robson said: "I am happy for the short time spent at 'W.B.A.'. I hope that with the right players, the team will return to the Premier League – I believe this will happen this season."
After 8 rounds, "W.B.A." is currently in 9th place in the second division and is five points behind leaders "Cardiff City" team.
Robson, who began his football career with "W.B.A." in 1975, became the team's coach in November 2004.
Ending a very successful career with the team, Robson served as head coach of "Middlesbrough" from 1994 to 2001 (initially as a player/coach). He also played 90 matches wearing the national team jersey.
