Irish national team and Newcastle club goalkeeper Shay Given is currently in the hospital and underwent surgery due to abdominal pain.
S.Given was urgently taken to the hospital after injuring his abdomen in Saturday's match against West Ham, which "The Magpies" won 2-0. The goalkeeper collided with "The Hammers" striker Marlon Harewood and suffered a serious abdominal injury.
"Shay will undergo surgery. Right now he's doing fine, but for now he will stay briefly in a London hospital," - the team's head coach Glenn Roeder told the club's website - "It's too early to give an exact date when he will return to training."
After the collision, it seemed that S.Given simply couldn't catch his breath for a while, but after the match, the footballer complained of pain and was immediately taken to the nearest medical facility.
Injured goalkeeper was replaced on the field by Steve Harper, who will most likely continue to play in the main lineup in the near future.
This Wednesday, Newcastle club will visit Liverpool, and on Sunday they will play against another Liverpool team, Everton.
