Sweden's national team goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson will most likely miss the upcoming 2008 European Championship qualifying matches next month, as he suffered a knee injury in training.
"He suffered the injury before Sunday's match against Blackburn, when he collided with a teammate during the team's training, and currently his knee ligaments are slightly strained," the "Man City" club website stated on Tuesday.
The player suffered a knee injury to his right leg, which means that the main goalkeeper of the Swedish national team will have to miss the match against Spain on October 7th, and the match against Iceland on October 11th.
It is believed that the injured A. Isaksson will be replaced by Viborg's goalkeeper John Alvbage or Fredrikstad's goalkeeper Rami Shaaban, who has already defended the honor of the Swedish national team in the 2008 European Championship qualifying matches against Latvia and Liechtenstein, while the "Man City" goalkeeper is just beginning to recover from a broken leg.
In September, the Swede left the French Ligue 1 team Rennes and joined the English Premier League team "Man City", but he has not yet played a single game for the team.
