On Friday and Saturday, four matches of the 5th round took place. On Friday, Breda's "NAC" played a draw with "Willem" on their home arena, while on Saturday, defending champions Eindhoven's "PSV", "Twente", and "Vitesse" clubs secured victories in three matches.
On Friday night, Breda's "NAC" and "Willem" met. A win for the home team would have lifted them to 4th place on the table, while the underdog "Willem" would have solidified their position in the middle of the table. However, both teams were unable to achieve their maximum goals and the match ended goalless at 0-0.
On Saturday, champions Eindhoven's "PSV" clashed with the bottom-placed Hague's "Den Haag" club as guests. Diego Tardelli broke the deadlock for "Den Haag" defense in the 57th minute, and five minutes before the end of regular time, a precise strike from Edison Mendez sealed the victory for the team.
The most productive match took place in Arnhem, where the local "Vitesse" unexpectedly crushed the 7th place "Heracles" from Almelo city at home. The match also saw a brilliant performance by "Vitesse" striker Danco Lazovic, who scored a hat-trick in the 37th, 52nd, and 75th minutes, while Anduele Prijor added another goal in the 66th minute.
Rotterdam's "Sparta" continued their unsuccessful start to the championship, as they were defeated 2-0 by Enschede's "Twente" team on the road. The match began tragically for the visitors when Edwin Van Bueren scored an own goal in the 18th minute. This affected the home team, who then conceded a penalty in the beginning of the second half, converted by Blaise N'Kufo.
