One Sunday of the season, in Panevezys, an emotional and seemingly lost match during the 29th round of the A league, the home team scored four goals in eight minutes and snatched a victory against Vilnius' "Zalgiris" team.
After the match, the head coach of "Zalgiris", Igoris Pankratjevas, did not appear at the press conference. The coach of Panevezys, Virginijus Liubšys, compared this match to the games played by Panevezys' "Statybos" four decades ago. Back then, the match ended in a 3-3 tie.
"With five minutes left until the end of the match, the score was 0-3 in favor of the opponents. A large part of the disappointed audience left the stadium, but upon hearing about the success of the Panevezys team, they returned. Such matches can only happen once every 15 years," stated V. Liubšys.
The head coach of "Zalgiris" mentioned that his team believed in victory too early: "This just proves once again that even a great team can quickly lose control and lose the match in 8 minutes."
However, despite criticizing his team's defenders for the missed goals, the Panevezys coach thanked the men for showing strong character: "Losing the match 0-3, they fought back after the first goal, even if they no longer believed, and achieved victory. Fortune was definitely on our side today."
