Former Uruguayan national team footballer Dario Silva was involved in a car accident and as a result, part of his right leg will be amputated.

The 33-year-old D. Silva's car crashed into a pole in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo on Sunday. Doctor Mario Canela informed that due to the trauma suffered, the footballer will have to have part of his right leg amputated, as there are fears of possible complications that could pose a threat to his life.

Since 1995, the Uruguayan has played in Europe for teams such as "Cagliari", "Espanyol", "Malaga", and "Sevilla". Last season, the footballer signed a two-year contract with the English team "Portsmouth", but due to injuries in January, the contract was mutually terminated and he returned to his homeland.

Having not played any matches recently, Dario Silva played 49 games for the Uruguayan national team and scored 14 goals.
