The Italian strategist Fabio Capello from Madrid after an impressive 5-1 victory in the UEFA Champions League match against Kiev at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium on Tuesday stated that his team can still improve a lot.
"This team can and must improve in many aspects," said the strategist at a press conference. "We gave our opponents too many chances, and not every opponent will be as generous to us."
"I think the team made mistakes in defense," said the Italian promoter of defensive football. "They are able to counterattack excellently and quickly, but some things in defense didn’t please me."
F. Capello singled out the team's captain, Raul, who scored two goals on Tuesday - the first ones wearing a "Real" shirt since October.
"Raul is a symbol of 'Real' and a very important player. I believe that everything he does should be evaluated, not just based on the number of goals scored," said the Italian.
F. Capello didn’t spare kind words for the other "Real" forward who scored two goals - Ruud van Nistelrooy, who played after a sleepless night where his wife gave birth to a daughter.
"He didn’t sleep last night, just dozed off a bit after lunch today, but he definitely didn’t look sleepy in the match," said F. Capello.
Meanwhile, Kiev's "Dynamo", who conceded nine goals in the first two Champions League matches, their head coach Anatoliy Demyanenko was furious.
"Our defense was poor, and 'Real' fully capitalized on that," said the coach of the Ukrainian club. "Both teams had opportunities, but they took them and we didn’t."
"Our players needed to fight much harder. 'Real' is a great team, but we made more than one unforgivable mistake," summarized the strategist.
