Munich strategist Felix Magath shone after Wednesday's 2-0 victory in the UEFA Champions League match against Milan. The win was especially joyful for the coach as it was the first victory in Italy in 18 years.
"This is a special victory. I am not one of those people who count statistics, but today we ended a long streak of failures, and against a strong team," said the German. "This victory proved that my team is strong."
Meanwhile, Inter, experiencing a second consecutive failure, remained at the bottom of Group B in the Champions League.
However, Milan's coach Roberto Mancini was convinced that his players would reach the next stage among the two strongest teams in the group.
"There are still four matches left, so there is still a chance to advance," said the Italian. "We have enough time to finish in second place. It is important to stay calm."
Mancini said that the result of the match did not entirely reflect what happened on the field.
"Inter had the advantage in some episodes of the match, but it disappeared completely when, in the 57th minute, forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic received a second yellow card," Mancini said.
Inter had a good performance before the missed goal, we had opportunities," continued the Italian. "2-0 is a misleading result. One might think that Bayern scored 50 times."
"They scored when we lost focus. Even when Ibrahimovic was sent off, we could still have won," concluded Mancini.
Bayern secured the victory at the end of the match: in the 81st minute, Peruvian forward Claudio Pizarro scored, and Lukas Podolski sealed the victory in the 90th minute.
Inter finished the match with nine players, as Fabio Grosso was sent off in the 85th minute.
