Belgian championship third-placed Liege's "Standard" forward Emil Mpenza has signed a four-year contract with a mid-table team in the German Bundesliga.

Mpenza will return to the Bundesliga after a year's break - last summer he left Anderlecht, where he formed a great duo with forward Ebbe Sand, and moved to "Standard de Liege". This season he was the second most productive player in the Belgian championship, scoring 21 goals.

It is believed that "HSV" will have to pay 2 million euros (about 7 million litas) for this Belgian national team forward, which "Standard" will most likely transfer to the "Schalke" team, with which the club still has unsettled debts.

HSV coach Klaus Toppmoller spoke about his new acquisition: "Mpenza is truly a top-class forward. He will greatly strengthen our team."

It is reported that the player will earn about 2.5 million euros (around 8.6 million litas) per year. Recently, Mpenza asked the coach of the Belgian national team to allow him to rest and not call him up to represent the country. In 37 matches for the national team, Mpenza has scored 14 goals.
