Last year's English "Premier League" vice-champions "Man Utd" received some unpleasant news - French national team defender Mikael Silvestre dropped out of the lineup for six weeks due to a broken foot bone.

The 29-year-old defender suffered a foot injury in a match against "Arsenal," which "the Red Devils" lost 1-0, and for this reason, he will not be able to help the team in this week's 7th round of the English "Premier League" against "Newcastle." Additionally, the player will not be able to participate in the 2008 European Championship qualification matches against Scotland and the Faroe Islands.

It is worth noting that M. Silvestre extended his contract with "Man Utd" club last month.

"His injury is slightly more serious than we initially thought," said assistant coach Carlos Queirozas.

The injured player's place on the left flank is expected to be taken by either Gabriel Heinze or Patrice Evra.

An interesting fact is that "Man Utd" stars David Beckham, Gary Neville, and Wayne Rooney have been sidelined for a long time due to similar injuries. The latter missed several important World Cup matches due to such an injury.

Meanwhile, in Sir Alex Ferguson's coached team, there is a much happier news - after a two-week break, veteran Ryan Giggs is doing some physical conditioning exercises.
