The Russian gas giant "Gazprom" has signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with one of the German "Bundesliga" clubs, Schalke from Gelsenkirchen.
"Schalke" and "Gazprom" fit each other perfectly, - stated the Russian company in a press release on Tuesday. - "Gazprom" is a successful global company, while "Schalke" is a magnificent and unique club."
Although the amount of the agreement with "Gazprom" was not disclosed, "Schalke" had previously announced that it would be around 125 million euros.
"Schalke" has many fans in the industrial Ruhr region of Germany, which "Gazprom" actively works with.
"Gazprom" also has connections with St. Petersburg's "Zenit". The Russian club, like "Schalke", plays in similar blue and white kits.
The "Gazprom" logo on "Schalke" jerseys will be visible from January 1st next year.
After six rounds, "Schalke" holds the fifth position in the German "Bundesliga" with ten points.
