Italian "Serie A" club was punished with a deduction of one point - such a punishment was decided to be imposed for a delay in paying social security contributions.
The Tuscan club was accused by the Federal Prosecutor's Office, and a commission led by Claudio Franchini announced the sentence on Thursday. The club lost one point in the league table, and its president Paolo De Luca received a three-month disqualification.
"Siena" failed to submit documentation by the deadline, which was in July, proving that they paid social security contributions to their members, players with contracts, and freelancers. It was decided that the club was directly responsible for this, and the point deduction punishment pushed the team that started the season successfully with 10 points to sixth place in the league.
"Siena" president P. De Luca stated to the Gazzetta dello Sport website that "this is a terrible decision, and although it is demoralizing, we are preparing to appeal."
Along with Siena, the "Serie B" club "Pescara" was also punished for the same reason, with the disciplinary committee imposing exactly the same punishment.
