On Sunday, two remaining matches of the 10th round of the French "Ligue 1" championship were played. In the central match of the round, defending champions "Lyon" crushed second-placed "Marseille" 4-1 away from home, increasing their lead to 8 points.

In a highly anticipated clash, "Lyon" took the lead first when their leader, Brazilian Juninho Pernambucano, scored a goal in the 20th minute.

At the start of the second half, rising star Karim Benzema doubled the lead for "Lyon" in the 47th minute with a beautiful strike into "Marseille's" net.

Just ten minutes later, "Marseille's" situation became difficult as their defender Taye Taiwo received a red card and was sent off the field. Despite being a man down, Marseille players managed to reduce the margin with a goal from Habib Bamogo in the 70th minute.

However, that was all "Marseille" could create in this match, while "Lyon" continued to attack and in the 77th minute Juninho scored his second goal, and the final blow into Marseille's net was delivered by Swedish national team goalkeeper Kim Kallstrom in the 87th minute.

In other Sunday matches at the Osero Stade Abbe-Deschamps stadium, local team "Auxerre" met the visitors from the capital "P.S.G". Despite Paris' club pressing their opponents throughout the match, neither team managed to score. With these draws, "Auxerre" and "P.S.G" are now in 12th and 13th places on the league table.
