As reported by the Spanish "Primera" league club on Monday, team captain David Albelda will be unable to help his team for two months due to a knee injury.
The 29-year-old Spanish national team defender injured his right knee during the 7th round of the country's championship against "Osasuna" on Sunday, which "Valencia" won 1-0 while trying to take the ball away.
"After the tests performed, the club medical staff confirmed the diagnosis that was made during Sunday's match. If there are no complications, the player will not be able to play for about two months," - stated in a statement on the "Valencia" club's website.
D. Albelda will miss the last three UEFA Champions League group stage matches against Donetsk's "Shakhtar," Piraeus' "Olympiacos," and Rome's "Roma."
The Spaniard added to Coach Quique Sanchez Flores's list of injured team players, which already includes defenders Carlos Marchena and Asier Del Horno, as well as midfielders Ruben Baraja and Vicente.
This summer, defender A. Del Horno, acquired from English champions "Chelsea," will undergo Achilles tendon surgery on Tuesday in an attempt to finally heal the injury that has been plaguing him for a long time.
The defender has not yet worn the "Valencia" club jersey and missed the World Cup in Germany due to the same problem.
Currently, the "bats" are sharing the 1-2 positions in the Spanish league with the defending champion "Barcelona" club.
