President of Madrid, Ramon Calderon, stated that after the humiliating defeat to Getafe players on October 14th, Raul seriously considered terminating his contract and leaving the Royal club.
Real Madrid lost the derby 1-0, which almost pushed the Spanish player, who has not been very successful in recent seasons, to leave his hometown team.
"After those matches, he told me that he was deeply affected by the failure and couldn't sleep at night," Calderon said.
"Raul also said that if things continue like this, he will leave Real and will not ask for the continuation of the salary specified in the contract."
However, things improved significantly this week - Madrid's team crushed Steaua Bucharest 4-1 in the Champions League away game, and in the famous El Clasico on Sunday, they defeated eternal rival Barcelona 2-0. In both matches, Raul scored a goal and received praise from experts.
Lately, there has also been talk of the 29-year-old forward's retirement from the national team, where he has not been called up for some time. However, it seems that this situation may soon change.
"We are trying to organize a friendly match between the Spanish national team and Denmark on March 24th to be held at our Santiago Bernabeu stadium," Calderon said.
