UEFA has disqualified Wisla Krakow defender Nikola Mijailovic for five matches, who racially insulted a Blackburn striker during a UEFA Cup match.
Last week's match in Poland was won 2-1 by Blackburn.
After receiving a complaint from Blackburn and official confirmation from the match referee, UEFA has launched an investigation.
"Benni was very upset by the comments he received during the match," said Blackburn manager Mark Hughes after Thursday's match. "They were racist comments. It's a shame that these things overshadow the teams' play."
UEFA commented on the decision on Thursday, stating that racism not only violates the principles of fair play, but can also harm sports significantly.
The 24-year-old Mijailovic has been handed a five-match ban which will be valid in all UEFA competitions. He can still appeal by Monday.
