Kyiv's president Igor Surkis promised radical changes in the club after a tragic start to the Champions League group stage matches.
Dynamo lost the first three matches in Group E, scoring only two goals and conceding 12 against Bucharest's Steaua, Real Madrid, and Lyon. Although the club remains at the top of the Ukrainian Premier League, their recent performances in the championship have been poor.
"We will say goodbye to many players in the winter. There will be big changes in Dynamo, a real cleansing," said Surkis in an interview with the newspaper "Blik," adding that he will not tolerate "people who receive large sums of money, sit on the bench, and do nothing. I'm sending them a message, and if they don't listen, they'll get bad reviews."
In Wednesday's match against Lyon, Dynamo will have to cope without Ukrainian national team defender Vladyslav Vashchuk, who underwent knee surgery. However, the player hopes to return to the squad by the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Dynamo's opponent Shakhtar Donetsk, who have also failed to win a single match in the Champions League so far, is facing criticism for their performance in Europe. There are talks in the country about the need to reform the football structure.
"We have reached a logical conclusion, a complete failure on the international stage. Unless we get serious enthusiasm and several financially capable clubs that could create real competition in the championship, like in Russia, I'm afraid we won't see any progress. If this continues, only 500, maybe 1000 fans will come to the matches, and I will continue to tear my hair out trying to find good players for the national team," complained national team coach Oleg Blokhin.
