San Sebastian club appointed former Barcelona "Espanyol" and Vigo "Celta" strategist Miguel Angel Lotina as the new head coach of the team following the dismissal of Jose Mari Bakero on Friday.
"Real Sociedad" announced that the 49-year-old Basque, who became the fourth coach of the team in 14 months, signed a contract until the end of the season with the possibility of extending it for another year.
The club started the Spanish league season very unsuccessfully and after seven matches, they have only collected two points, occupying the last place in the standings. J.M.Bakero was fired on Thursday, a day after the team's loss to lower league Malaga in the Spanish King's Cup.
The new Basque team coach M.A. Lotina became famous with "Numancia" and "Osasuna" at the end of the last decade for managing to promote to the "Primera" division. Later, in 2003, he achieved the highest ever fourth place in the club's history with Vigo "Celta" in the league and secured a spot in the Champions League. Taking over as coach of "Espanyol" in 2004, the strategist led the club to winning the Spanish Cup last season.
