On Saturday, six matches of the ninth round of the Bundesliga were played, after which only one team remained undefeated. A fairly big surprise was recorded in Cottbus, where the league newcomers "Cottbus" managed to defeat the previously only once-defeated capital club "Hertha".
"Cottbus" could have taken the lead right at the beginning of the match, when a penalty kick was awarded to the visitors, but team leader Vlado Munteanu's shot was off-target - the ball flew high over the crossbar.
After about an hour, D.Gunkel scored with a penalty kick from 23 meters, putting "Cottbus" ahead. A few minutes later, S.Okoronkwo was sent off the field and "Hertha's" situation became critical. "Cottbus" took advantage of the numerical superiority and at the end of the match doubled the score after a substitution by J.Shao.
In another match, Frankfurt's "Eintracht" suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 0-2 to defending champions "Bayern" away. The Munich club gained the lead after playing for just over twenty minutes, with R.Makaay scoring after a goalkeeper error. Five minutes later, the score was doubled by the club's newcomer M.van Bommel. After the victory, "Bayern" moved up to second place, three points behind "Werder".
In the battle of outsiders, "Wolfsburg" managed to secure three important points by defeating "Bochum" 1-0 away. The only goal of the match, after a pass from Jacek Krzynowek from the wing, was scored by M.Hanke. With ten points collected, "Wolfsburg" jumped to thirteenth position, while "Bochum" remained at the bottom of the table.
